Project: Matagarup Bridge – Landscaping
Location: Perth, WA
Duration: 5 Months
McDowall Affleck assisted the York-Rizzani De Eccher Joint Venture during the design and construction of the Matagarup Bridge. McDowall Affleck in joint venture with its Italian partner Studio Techne’ were appointed by York-Rizzani De Eccher JV to provide preliminary and detailed design of the landscaping structures including Pause Points over the bridge piers, Observation Decks, Leaning Rail foundation and Planter box seating.
McDowall Affleck faced challenges of complex geometry of pause points on the sloping deck, pause points to be built following initial opening of the bridge and the observation deck steel structure had to fit on precast driven piles.
We got round this by having a Revit 3D model of the pause point superimposed on full bridge 3D model of the bridge, we had a precast option to minimise impact on pedestrian traffic and steelwork drawings updated following ‘As Built’ Survey of driven piles. We also a delayed pour of top of piles to manage minor fabrication tolerances.
We had a good design agreed with the contractor to maximise offsite prefabrication and minimise on site labour cost.
