McDowall Affleck were appointed by Holton Connor Architects as the project structural engineer for the new Charles Riley Community Facility in North Beach district of Perth for The City of Stirling as the End Client. The facility has an approximate footprint of 1,378m2 with $6.2m construction cost. The single story structure is a mixture of masonry, tilt up panels and framed construction with a steel roof structure. The building contained a number of split levels throughout requiring internal build ups to retain ground beneath the slab. The roof of the pavilion along with canopies and the main entry are designed with landmark architectural forms. Structural design aimed at simplifying the connection details and framing to allow for incorporation of typical details whenever possible.
