McDowall Affleck was commissioned by Discovery Holiday Parks (The Big 4) as their Civil Engineering Consultants to assist with development to expand their existing Caravan Park facilities in Koombana Bay, Bunbury. Discovery Holiday Parks purchased the existing vacant land adjoining their site and obtained Development Approval. The development consisted of 26 furnished cabins, 48 powered caravan and camping sites, Multi Use and an Amenities building. McDowall Affleck engaged the services of 3EM Engineering Consultants as their sub-consultant for the design and documentation of the internal electrical and telecommunication design. APH Contractors were awarded the Civil Construction Works through a selected tender process.

The scope of work included; the design and documentation of the bulk earthworks, internal roads and drainage, sewer reticulation, sanity drainage and the internal water hydraulic.

The project challenges were an issue with the site being located where there were possible buried shipwrecks and the existing soils were not to be disturbed.

McDowall Affleck worked closely with Discovery Holiday Parks and the City of Bunbury to make sure everything went to plan.
